Appleseed International
Various cities and countries

The travel project, Appleseed International was an art-based social experiment that included site visits to 40 cities. In Appleseed, 280 large format color transparency light boxes were produced and distributed to 20 U.S. and 20 international city parks for random passersby to find, keep, and respond to if he or she chose to do so.

Each artwork was placed in an unpremeditated and democratic manner in a public area for whomever to find. A letter written in the predominant local language and English, describing the project and inviting response accompanied each piece. I have tracked the project’s development through collecting and translating the responses, creating maps, designing a project book, and corresponding with finders. At the outset, Appleseed was designed to function as an art-based social experiment that looks at the function of a simple gesture in our rapidly changing world.
